Glen Rock Panthers' Girls Soccer Highlights for week ending 09/15/02 |
Guerin-era begins with shutout |
Meredith Guerin's coaching debut was a success as Glen Rock rolled to a
6-0 victory over Hawthorne on Friday afternoon in Glen Rock that opened the 2002 girls' soccer season. Guerin replaced
Tracey Trobiano who led the Panthers to an 18-3-1 mark last year. Glen Rock scored twice in the opening half and iced the verdict with a four-goal outburst in the second half. Senior Kim Mineo, a Bergen County all star first team selection as a junior, was top gun on the attack for the Panthers on opening day. She drove to balls to the back of the Bears' cage and was credited with a pair of assists. Senior midfielder Leah Jerome, another first team Bergen County honoree a year ago, tallied a goal as did sophomore midfielder Abbie Paris, senior midfielder Christina Patoir and senior forward Stephanie Trainor. Keeper Sarah Volkommer turned aside all six official shots on goal as she recorded the shutout "W" between the pipes for the Panthers. A good indication of the Panthers' standing at the state level will come on Saturday when Glen Rock travels to Denville to battle the perennially powerful Crusaders of Morris Catholic. |
