Vikings Sports Highlights for the Week Ending September 30, 2001

Lady Vikings explode with 5 goals in first half By Dennis Wilson Five different Vikings tickled the Becton twine in the opening half as North Arlington routed the Wildcats 5-0 in a BCSL - National girls soccer match on Tuesday. The win was the second along with a draw in three outings for the Vikings. Arianna Bearn and Chris Ferro led the attack, posting goals and assists while Jenna Dada, Natalie Rocha and Kristen Webb contributed solo goals. Picking up assists were Allison Gino and Maggi Toloczko while keeper Patrice Melola registered the shutout "W" between the pipes by coming up with two saves. Andrew Zuniga raced to a fourth place finish, leading the Viking contingent across the line in a 17-46 loss to Secauscus in a BCSL - National boys cross country meet on Wednesday. Zuniga was clocked in 17 minutes, 21 seconds as he completed the 3.1-mile course in North Arlington's first setback of the season following back-to-back wins to start the campaign. In the girls division of the cross country competition, the Lady Vikings dropped a 18-39 verdict to the Patriots. Janine Marfino was the first North Arlington harrier to cross the line, finishing fifth in a time of 24 minutes, 24 seconds.
