Clancy, Fulgoni capture honors

Four charities were the big winners of the 12th Annual Tournament of Life presented by LIFE (Ladies Involved for Everyone) on Wednesday at the Farmstead Golf & Country Club in Lafayette. West Caldwell's Jesse Clancy captured low gross honors when she carded an 18-hole round of 80 while Wharton's Nancy Fulgoni captured low net honors with an adjusted card of 58. Nutley's Jody Dey won the Low Calloway catehory with a 74. A trio of Roseland residents were part of the foursome that captured low gross team honors on a match of cards at 371. The Roseland golfers were Flora DeStefano, Cathy Fischberg and Rita Lupine who teamed with Livingston's Sandy Probisco to form the winning quartet. Occupying the runnerup slot was the Hamburg foursome of Jerilyn McBride, Maureen O'Hara, Susanne Palmer and Kim Shackeh. In the team low net category, Sparta's Bettijane Bryant, Ogdenburg's Deb Elmore, Denville's Barb Mac Millian and Rockaway's Lucille Perrault to form the victorious foursome that posted a score of 256. Finishing in second place on a match of cards at 274 was the quartet of Hackensack's Renee Lucania, East Hanover's Cathy Marzulli, Nora Oliver and Clifton's Lorraine Toaldo. Cedar Grove's Mary Milmoe took home the prize for closest to the pin and Clifton's Penny Jentsch picked up the award for closest to the line. Sponsored by Sussex County State Bank and the host Farmstead Golf & Country Club, it was day of golf for 144 women, beginning with a continental breakfast and an 8:00 AM Shotgun start. Refreshments were served throughout the event that concluded with a cocktail hour and an awards luncheon. Boonton's Gail Blowers, Marlene Carnogursky, Ellie Hopkins, Connie Price and Terese Webber, Denville's Ruth Atkins, Maxine Howarth, Marulyn Terhune and Joan Trautman, Mountain Lakes' Grace Murtha, Rockaway's Nancy Deblieck, Joan Gowrie, Carol Moscatiello, Jean Smalley and Virginia Thomas as well as Wharton's Joan Miller were members of the 36 foursomes that competed. Leslie Van Syckle, the pro at Rolling Greens, served as President of the Tournament Committee while Gail Phoebus was Vice President and Pepper Puccetti of Suusex County State Bank was Secretary/Treasurer. The Committee members were Sparta's Bettijane Bryant, Pequannock's Johanna Demkowicz, Dawn Hall, Branchville's Betty Kovach, Marlene Middletown, Eileen Mooney, Missy O'Donnell, Pat Sisco, Elke Yetter and Newton's Lois Zitone.
