Nordenbring races to MKA's first county title

Held at Seton Hall University, South Orange

Oskar Nordenbring, a freshman at Montclair Kimberley, became the first-ever Cougar to win an Essex County winter track title when he broke the tape in the 3200 meter run in a time of 10:13.38. His teammate Doug Wolf made it a 1-2 MKA finish as he picked up the silver medal with a clocking of 10:19.32.
Senior Maxwell Booker of Bishop Francis not only defended his county title, he set a new meet record of 6.39 seconds when he sprinted across the finish line in the 55-meter dash.
Chris Turner, a junior at Seton Hall Prep, passed defending champion Eric Green of Clifford Scott 10 meters from the finish in a stirring stretch run to claim the gold medal in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.3 seconds.
Julius Scott led St. Benedict's Prep to the team title when the senior broke the meet and Gray Bee's record in winning the shot put with a toss of 56-4.

Columbia races to 10th straight title in Essex Couunt meet

Held at Seton Hall University, South Orange

Columbia claimed its 10th straights Essex County Girls Winter Track & Field title on Thursday, February 1, 2001 on the campus of Seton Hall University in South Orange. Junior Courtney Epps and frosh Raven Lea dominated the distance events, combining to post 34 points in the Cougars scoring column with Epps winning the 1600 meter run in 5:24.33 and Raven claiming the gold medal in the 3200 meter run with a clocking of 11:33.05.
Senior Sienna Robinson of Immaculate Conception/Montclair, defended her title in the shot put competition. The NJSIAA Group I champion flipped the eight-pound ball 34-5 3/4.
West Orange's Tiffany Clark won the 400 meter dash the hard way. The junior competed in the unseeded heat and raced through the tape in 1:01.59 to pick up the gold medal.
Montclair's Jennifer Whitlock, the NJSIAA Group IV champion, successfully defended her title when she glided over the 55 meter hurdles to a first place finish in 8.31 seconds.
