Seton Hall Women's Soccer shuts out Fairleigh Dickinson 3-0 |
By Marie Wozniak |
SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Freshman Ashley Gaviglio (Flower Mound, TX) had a goal
and an assist to help Seton Hall to a 3-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in women's soccer action. The Pirates improve
to 2-1 while Fairleigh Dickinson drops to 0-3. After a scoreless first half, Gaviglio got the Pirates on the board with her first career goal. On the initial Seton Hall shot, FDU goalkeeper Andrea Maston came to the top of the box, but her attempted clear went to Gaviglio, who collected it and shot it into the open net from more than 25 yards away at 49:09. At 67:42, Gaviglio sent a long cross from the right side to junior Anne Sauer (Solroed Strand, Denmark) at the left post. Sauer connected from close range for her first goal of the year. The Pirates added another at 82:38 as freshman Mary Ronau (Gales Ferry, CT) took a cross from classmate Oriana Nierojewski (Burlington, Ontario) and connected from point-blank range. Senior goalkeeper Leah Miller (Harrison, OH) made two saves on the day to record her second shutout of the season. The Pirates outshot the Knights, 15-6, and had a 10-2 edge in shots on goal. Maston made seven saves for Fairleigh Dickinson. Seton Hall hosts in-state rival Princeton on Saturday in a 1 p.m. match. |
