About the author

Paulina Banasiak is a senior and a tri-captain of the Wallngton High School varsity cheerleading squad.
She was asked to write the following article for the March issue of NJ Sports.

As a senior and captain of my cheerleading team, I hoped my team would go far in interscholastic competition, but this year the Wallington High School Varsity Cheerleaders had an opportunity to do something beyond special.
When our coach Tracey Whitecraft received an invitation from the New Jersey Ironman asking us to perform at one of their games, the excitement that followed was an understatement. I was anxious, nervous and stressed out, but most of all, unbelievably exhilarated. A million ideas charged through my head about what dance we should do and what stunts we could perform to please the crowd.
The day of the game, March 2nd, we arrived at the stadium in awe. Its impressive exterior was only followed by a stunning interior. This really got us pumped. Once the game started we performed a part of our competition routine as well as a stunt group routine. At half time, we did our football dance. The energy from the crowd was fulfilling and breathtaking. Looking up at the jumbotron and seeing ourselves was amazing. We were a part of something beautiful and it made all of us feel really good. The Ironmen routed the Orlando Sharks 27-5 and that added to the enjoyment of the day's activities.
We stunted during the game, shouted out some chants, and got to do the "Cha - Cha" slide with the Ironmen Dance Team, getting all the fans in the stands involved. This experience was an experience of a life time, one I never plan on forgetting.
Everyone on the team had a blast and we would like to thank the New Jersey Ironmen for having us; we are more than happy and thankful.
