Florance leads local pack in 25th Annual 10K Run for the Roses

Denville's James Florance led the local pack of runners to the finish in Saturday evening's 25th Annual 10K Run For The Roses in Denville. A total of 301 competitors finished the 6.2-mile course.
Florance was the 48th runner overall to cross the line, as the 52-year old turned in a clocking of 42 minutes, 59 seconds. Lauren Gregory led the local distaff runners, finishing fourth overall among the 88 females in the event as the 14-year old posted a time of 40 minutes, 48 seconds.
A pair of local runners turned in gold medal efforts in their respective age divisions. Denville's Beverly Eggert finished first among the 65 to 69-year old women as the 66-year old resident of Cedar Lake was clocked in 1 hour, 5 minutes, 33 seconds while 76-year old Anthony Agwanno won the men's 75 to 79 age bracket with a clocking of 1 hour, 11 minutes, 46 seconds.
Picking up runnerup awards were Denville's 22-year old Wendy Simonis and 67-year old Richard Wilde while finishing in third place were Denville's 11-year old Matthew Montana, 14-year old Lauren Gregory and 70-year old Alan Spivak.

Erica Holveck

Holveck named to Ivy League Women's Lacrosse Honor Roll

Denville's Erica Holveck, a junior midfielder for the Cornell women's lacrosse squad, led a second half defensive charge that limited the Harvard Crimson to one second half goal as Cornell rallied to a 9-8 comeback victory. She recorded four ground balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover, all in the second half of play.With its comeback win over Harvard, Cornell finished Ivy League play with a best-ever 6-1 record in the League and sole possession of second place.
A consistent contributor out of the midfield, Holveck scored 19 points on 12 goals and seven assists while starting 14 of 15 games as a sophomore. She scored two goals off the bench in an 11-7 win over No. 7 Yale and twice was credited with a pair of assists. An All-Ivy second-team selection as a freshman, Holveck played in all 17 games with 15 starting assignments. She scored 28 points on 20 goals and eight assists in her rookie campaign, including three goals in wins vs. Penn and Brown.
