| It was a busy week for the road runners with major events in Cape May, Essex,
Morris and Union Counties. The culmination of the week's schedule that began Tuesday at Picatinny Arsenal was completed
Sunday morning on Long Beach Island under bright sunny skies where 777 runners completed the course on the northern
end of the island in the prestigious Dog Day Five-Mile Run. The Newton mother-daughter combination of Christina and Amanda Gordon excelled on LBI. Christina, the 41-year old mother, placed third in the 40 to 44 women's age bracket with a clocking of 38 minutes, 43 seconds. Her daughter Amanda was fastest to finish among the 14 to 16-year old girls as the 14-year old posted a clocking of 39 minutes, 9 seconds. In the Contact We Care 5K Run contested at South Mountain Reservation in Millburn on Saturday, Randolph's eight-year old Kyle D'Amore completed the hilly 3.1-mile course in 31 minutes, 30 seconds In the 5th Morris County Striders Summer Series 5K Run contested at Kittatinny on Tuesday evening, 18-year old Matthew Van Antwerp of Oak Ridge raced through the tape to the race, posting the impressive time of 15 minutes, 43 seconds. In the age division competition, Hopatcong's 60-year old Richard Stowe, Newfoundland's 70-year old Arthus Judge, Newton's 12-year old Sam McMullen, the Sparta trio of 15-year old Justin Scheid, 36-year old Adriane Stewart-John and 50-year old Barbara Hoess as well as Stanhope's 66-year old Bill Brooks turned in first place performances. Finishing second in their age divisions were Branchville's 46-year old April Bortone, Newton's 14-year old Jamie Fiscus and Sparta's 49-year old Larry Schied. Placing third were Stanhope's 22-year old Scott Langen, Stockholm's 16-year old Michael Burghoffer along with Sparta's 46-year old Christine Dehnel and 54-year old Roseann Zahn.

| Competing on a cross country course, Newton's Christina Gordon turned in
a strong effort, racing across the line 18th overall in a field of 83 runners who completed Lindsey's 5K Cross
Country Run in Basking Ridge on Tuesday. The 45-year old covered the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 12 seconds
as she picked up the third place trophy in the women's 40 to 44-year old age division. Hamburg's Kirk Behagg was the first Sussex County to complete the race, finishing 47th overall in the field of 243 runners with a clocking of 21 minutes, 42 seconds.

| Six Sussex County residents turned in gold medal efforts in their age divisions
of the 4th Morris County Striders Summer Series 5K in Picatinny Arsenal on Tuesday evening. Sparta's trio of Bill
Bosmann, Barbara Hess and Galina Tucker were joined in the winner's circle by Newton's Sam McMullen, Stanhope's
Bill Brooks along with Johnny Warren of Sussex. McMullen was fastest to the finish in the 11 & 12-year old boys age group, posting a time of 18 minutes, 34 seconds. Warren, a 20-year old, won the men's 20 to 34 bracket with a clocking of 17 minutes, 11 seconds as he finished third overall in the field of 283 runners. Sparta's 50-year old duo of Bosmann and Hess dominated the 50 to 54 age division. Bosmann won the men's title in 17 minutes, 37 seconds while Hess finished first among the women with a clocking of 24 minutes, 1 second. In the female 55 to 59 group, the 56-year old Tucker turned in the winning time of 34 minutes, 39 seconds while the 65-year old Brooks won the men's 65- to 69 competition with a clocking of 34 minutes, 25 seconds. Picking up runnerup awards were Augusta's 13-year old Nicole Casler, Branchville's 46-year old April Botton, Newton's 21-year old Bjorn Anderson, Sparta's 14-year old Zach Ripps and 49-year old Larry Scheid. Finishing in third place were Lafayette's 17-year old Sam Beese, Sparta's 15-year old Justin Scheid, 46-year old Christine Dehnel and 60-year old Wayne Tucker as well as 38-year old Craig Polizzi of Sussex. 4th Morris County Striders Summer Series 5K
