Pope John grad excels for Greyhounds

Newton's Melissa Soroka completed an outstanding frosh season on the Moravian College women's softball team. The Pope John graduate led the Greyhounds in batting as

she posted a .359 average while starting all 45 games as Moravian posted an overall record of 33-12 and was selected to the Middle Atlantic Conference First Team.
Soroka, the starting shortstop, connected safely 56 times in 156 official at bats, legging out nine two-baggers, posting three triples and blasting three homers. She knocked in 29 runs and scored 33 times while compiling a slugging percentage of .513. She drew a dozen walks and was hit by a pitch on three occasions to record an on-base percentage of .408 while stealing nine bases in 11 attempts.
The 33 victories set a Moravian record for any sport, eclipsing the 1995 and 1997 softball teams as well as the 1991-1992 women's basketball team, all of which had 31 wins.

 

Vernon's Wolters named LEC All Star

Jill Wolters of Vernon was selected to the 2000 Little East Conference women's soccer All Star Second Team
A junior back at Plymouth State College in New Hampshire, Wolters had an exceptional campaign on defense for the Panthers. She started all but one game and displayed solid, aggressive defense as she helped PSC record five shutouts in a 10-8-2 season.

Maslanek recovers for Greyhounds

Steve Maslanek, a former Viking standout who lives in Stockholm, is a frosh linebacker for the Moravian Greyhounds who recorded a fumble recovery in a win over Susquehanna (52-33). In 8 games, Maslanek has recorded 21 tackles, 12 of which were solo hits, had 2 tackles for a loss of 12 yards and posted two QB sacks for an additional loss of 12 yards as Moravian sports a 5-3 overall record.
