Sparta's Curcio honored with Piccolo Memorial Award

Sparta's Christopher Curcio is the 2002 recipient of the prestigious Brian
Piccolo Memorial Award that is presented annually by the Sparta chapter of UNICO National. A senior at Blair Academy,
Curcio will receive the national award that is presented to a student/athlete who demonstrates the atttributes
associated with the life of the late Chicago Bears' running back, including outstanding performance in the classroom
and on the athletic field.
President Jack Mazzuccolo made the presentation to Curcio at the Humanitarian of the Year Dinner on June 2, 2002
at Perona Farms.
"Chris has turned in an excellent performance in the classroom and for the soccer, squash and baseball programs
at Blair Academy," said Mazzuccolo. "He served as captain of both the soccer and baseball teams and was
a first team Prep A soccer player in addition to being selected to participate as a soccer player in the World
Scholar/Athlete Games."
"A three-sport varsity athlete since his sophomore year, Chris has made a major commitment to our athletic
program," added Jim Stone, the athletic director at Blair Academy. "His attitude of never being satisfied
and doing what it takes to get the job done, has made himself and his team better."
Curcio, who continue his academic/athletic career at Union College, will receive not only the Brian Piccolo Memorial
Award but also a $750 scholarship from UNICO. |
