St. Mary's Spring Stampede 5K

Farmingdale's 9-year old Briana Jackucewicz races to a first place trophy in the girls 10 & Under age bracket, posting a time of 20:24.

Newark's 10-year old Joao Pinho wins the boys 10 & Under age division with a time of 20:03 as Morristown's 42-year old Susan Hess follows, finishing 5th in the distaff 40-44 age bracket with a time of 20:04.

Piscataway's 51-year old Roger Price finished 9th overall and wins the men's 50 to 54 age division with a time of 16:48.

Summit's 35-year old Ann Britt crosses the line in 1st place among the distaff 35-39 year old competitors with a time of 19:06 while 55-year old Pete Shanno follows in 19:07 as he wins the men's 55-59 age bracket.

Alouaui, Parton finish 1st in St. Mary's Spring Stampede 5K in Denville

With bagpipes blaring and drums rolling at the finish line, the St. Mary's Spring Stampede 5K was contested in Denville on Saturday morning under beautiful blue skies. The event served as the USATF-NJ 5K Masters Championship event. Glen Ridge's Dan Murphy was fastest to the finish line among the male runners, crossing in 16 minutes, 20 seconds while Janice Morra of Nyack, NY was the first distaff runner to complete the event, posting a clocking of 18 minutes, 24 seconds.

Paterson's Fouzi Alouaui pulled away in the stretch to break the tape in the winning time of 15 minutes, six seconds while Kearny's Carlos Martins was runnerup with a clocking of 15 minutes, nine seconds. Placing third was Bloomfield's Elliott Frieder who turned in a time of 15 minutes, 50 seconds.

Rumson's 31-year old Laurie Parton, who finished 29th overall in a field of 371 runners who completed the 3.1 mile course, was clocked in 17 minutes, 39 seconds as she led all the female runners to the finish. Janice Morria of Nyack, New York was runnerup in a time of 18 minutes, 24 seconds, while Summit's Anne Britt finished third with a clocking of 19 minutes, six seconds.

Jonathon Rudge, a 49-year old, was the first Denville resident to finish, placing 85th in a time of 19 minutes, 47 seconds. Kurt Brenner, a 44-year old, was the second local resident across the line, turning in a time of 19 minutes, 59 seconds while 31-year old Karen Scornavacca was the first local distaff runner, finishing 205th in a time of 22 minutes, 32 seconds.

Preceding the 5K competrition was the Monsignor Murray One Mile Run in which all of the youngsters wore the No. 1 and all who finished received medals draped with a red-white-blue ribbon.

The purse money was all directed to the Masters competition. predicated upon WAVA Age Graduating. Murphy and Morra picked up checks for $150 apiece while men's purse was distributed among the top seven runners and the first five women received cash prizes because there were fewer female runners. There were medals awarded to the top three runners in each of the age groups from 40 to 44 years old and up and the first place Masters USATF-NJ teams picked up $25.

St. Mary's students Chris Colucci and Kristin King competed in the Spring Stampede and Monsignor Murray One Mile Run.

The Harris Family of Denvile (Kelsey, Bill and Mark) participated in the Monsignor Murray One Mile run.
