Vanderberg named Swimmer of the Year

Pequannock's Erin Vanderberg was an easy choice for local Swimmer of the Year accolades after she splashed to a gold medal finish in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Meet of Champions. The Golden Panther junior won the 100 backstroke in a time of 57.35 seconds and picked up the bronze medal in the 100 freestyle with a clocking of 53.98 seconds in the competition contested at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Deptford.

Cheuvront tops local kegling all stars

When it came to selecting the Today Newspapers Bowler of the Year, it was no contest. Wayne Valley's Kevin Cheuvront was not only the top local kegler during the 1999-2000 scholastic campaign, he also claimed the gold medal in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournament of Champions. Cheuvront posted the top three-game pin fall of 763 to win individual honors while Clifton claimed the boys team title with a combined score of 3072 pins.
Wayne Hills' Robyn Carey was the top local distaff bowler, finishing third in the TOC with a pin count of 609 pins while Passaic Valley's Holly Martin placed ninth with a 565 series.
