New Jersey routs New York 48-7

New Jersey three-peated in the 3rd Annual Governor's Bowl, routing New York 48-7 before a crowd of 7,212 at Michie Stadium on the campus of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. Hoboken's Tyrell Dortch was selected as New Jersey's Offensive MVP while Adam Taliaferro of Eastern Regional captured the Defensive MVP honors.
Dortch turned in the offensive highlight when he broke loose and raced 98-yards for a touchdown with 5:10 remaining in the third quarter that gave New Jersey a 27-7 lead. He topped all rushers, churning out 138 yards on the ground in eight carries. Taliaferro picked off a pair of New York aerials, returning one 40 yards for a touchdown and also recovered two New York fumbles.
Bergen Catholic's quarterback Matt LoVecchio opened the scoring when he scampered one-yard into the end zone to cap off New Jersey's first possession, a nine-play, 76-yard drive that was keyed bvy 55-yard pass from LoVecchio to Hillsborough's Jared Jones. New York put its only points on the board when Lawrence's Bashaun Carter picked off a LoVecchio aerial to raced 37 yards into the end zone to give the home squad a brief 7-6 lead. LoVecchio finished the game completing 4 of 8 aerials for 80 yards.
Pequannock's Chris Wispelwey took over the signal calling assignment for the third series of plays and marched New Jersey 69 yards in 11 plays with Keyport's Malcolm Postell bolting the final six yards over the goal to give the Garden State squad a 12-7 lead it would never surrender. For game, Wispelwey connected on 4 of 6 passes for 37 yards.
Matawan's Chris Dapolito, who will continue his academic/athletic career with the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers, connected with tight end Jared Mazzetta from Hunterdon Central on an eight-yard TD toss with 4:03 remaining before the halftime break and then flipped a two-yard conversion pass to Kyle Budinscak of Bridgewater to up the lead to 20-7 by intermission.
Following Dortch's record-setting run from scrimmage, New Jersey added second-half TDs by Postell on a two-yrd run, and 18-yard return of fumble by Piscataway's Justin Hinds and Taliaferro's interception return.
