| How does a football team end a championship drought of 24 years? On a high school scale that's almost proportional to the lack of success of the New York Rangers from 1940 until the 1995 Stanley Cup Championship season. A coach can try to come out with a different game plan year after year or maybe inject a few trick plays into the playbook and hope that they will be executed correctly. Or a coach can be more proactive and do something drastic that will benefit not only the team's record, but even provide its student/athletes with an increased personal value in the college selection process, not to mention generating a new pride for the high school student body. | ||||||||
| This is being demonstrated by the 2009 edition of the Northern Valley/Old Tappan football team and its head coach Brian Dunn. On Saturday (October 10) the Golden Knights remained unbeaten after four games by rolling to a 35-14 triumph over Northern Highlands. Leading into the preseason. Coach Dunn took advantages of the services of Angelo Mazza, Rob DeBrino, Adam Mangieri and Jason Tecchio at ONE Fitness in Northvale. | ||||||||
| ONE Fitness is only one year young, but its services can last a lifetime. It includes a 10,000 square foot facility that goes above and beyond what the traditional gym can offer individuals as well as teams. The ONE fitness team took in all of the Golden Knights varsity squad along with some of the JV members for an intense ride over 16 weeks of training. Mazza states "I wanted them to realize that conditioning is the baseline of everything that they will need to do on a football field. Without conditioning, you will be at a disadvantage come the fourth quarter when you need stamina the most." | ||||||||
| ONE Fitness takes athletics to the very basics, right down to the form of running. "Many commercialized gyms don't use such basic techniques as running through a ladder that will improve speed and agility or plyometrics that will increase vertical ability and fast twitch muscle reaction time amongst others which will build strength simultaneously." Mazza added. | ||||||||
| Located on Stonehurst Court in Northvale, ONE Fitness provides the preseason training concepts necessary to make a high school athletic team of any sport become an instant competitor for a state championship. "In addition to the strength and condition training aspect of our program, we have the ability for athletes to prepare for all sports. Whether it's throwing off our pitchers' mounds, running suicides on our 20 yards of Astroturf, flipping tires or simply kicking a soccer ball against the wall as hard as you can, we are equipped for it," continued Mazza who added, "It would be a wise investment for any team to look into ONE Fitness team training programs as the turnaround will be priceless. | ||||||||
| In the triumph over Northern Highlands, Ray Donnelly found a seam and ran 46 yards into the end zone and Nick Errico split the pipes with the first of his five straight successful PATs before sophomore quarterback Devin Fuller blasted three yards over the goal line as the Golden Knights led 14-0 entering the second quarter. Chris Martinez bolted 36 yards to paydirt and Fuller connected on a 21 yard TD toss to Mike Riley to boost Old Tappan into a 28-0 lead at the intermission. Fuller rushed for 60 yards and threw for 85 yards. Alex Azarian broke loose and raced 70 yards to daylight in the third quarter to give the Golden Knights a 35-point advantage before Rob Fortuna and Rob DiPietri put the Highlanders on the board in the fourth quarter. | ||||||||
